HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR BROWSER AND EMAIL SOFTWARE
Q. When should I upgrade my browser(s) to a newer version?
A.
Internet Explorer updates are incorporated into Windows Updates.
Critical updates in Windows Update generally should be installed as
soon as they are available.
Make sure your computer system has the resources to handle newer versions
- read the System Requirements section before downloading.
Q. Which browser(s) should I use?
A. You can install any number of browsers on your computer.
It's a good idea to have more than one - if something goes wrong with one,
you can always use another. Internet Explorer ships with all versions
of Windows, so it's the most widely used browser worldwide. However,
because it has significant security problems, many people choose to use
other browsers. Firefox
is a new and highly recommended alternative.
Q. How much does it cost to upgrade?
A. It's free and legal to download Internet Explorer,
Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox. There may be costs associated with other
browsers.
Q. How do I get upgrades or other browsers?
A.
Windows Update can be inititated by clicking Start | Windows Update, or
clicking Tools in the Menu Bar of Internet Explorer, then Windows Update.
The Community Network's
Helpdesk page provides direct links to four popular browsers, or
see many others at Tucows.
The highest version of Internet Explorer that can run on Windows 95 is
Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2. Unfortunately, Microsoft is no longer
providing updates for Windows 95 (details).
