WINDOWS 7 - MAKING A DSL (HIGH-SPEED) PPPoE CONNECTION TO BEC INTERNET SERVICES

These instructions are for creating a DSL connection in Windows Vista.
If your DSL modem is configured in routing mode or if you use a wireless
router, you do not need to create a connection in Windows.
- Connect the DSL modem
- Connect the power adapter cord to the DSL modem.
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to the computer's Ethernet
port.
- Connect the telephone line from your wall jack to the DSL modem.
This line must NOT have a line filter installed.
- Create a new connection (only if the DSL modem is
not in routing mode)
- Click Start | Control Panel | Network and Internet | Network and Sharing
Center
- Click "Set up a connection or network"
- Click "Connect to the Internet", click Next
- Select "Broadband (PPPoE)"
- In the Username field, type your entire email address
- Enter your password; check the Remember Password box if you want Windows to
remember your password
- In the Connection Name field, type BEC-DSL-PPPoE
- Click Connect
- To place a shortcut on your desktop, click Start | Control Panel | Network
and Internet | Network and Sharing Center | Change Adapter Settings; right-click the
BEC-DSL-PPPoE icon, click Create Shortcut, click OK.
When you later want to connect, double-click that icon
- Configure Internet Explorer (and/or a browser of your choice)
- In the menu bar of Internet Explorer, click Tools | Internet
Options
- General tab: in the "Home Page address" field, type
http://niagara.becon.org
- Connections tab: make sure "Never dial a connection" is selected
- Click OK
